Rock Art in Israel - Book

Rock art is not art imitating life; it is a visual record of religious beliefs practiced long ago and not an expression of daily life. That's the book's basic conclusion that completes 20 years of rock art research in Israel.  In particular, the research presented in this book, sheds light on the ancient world's spiritual world, especially its connection with ancient astronomy and mythology. It illuminates how early man envisioned Creation, invented the first Calendar, and expressed his desire to reach Paradise. After 6,000 years of silence, we finally hear the faint voice of Negev Desert's ancient civilization.

The research and subjects chosen in the book are relevant to rock art deciphering throughout the world. The original archeological findings are now presented for the first time with much care for their integrity. Deciphering supposedly primitive rock art requires knowledge of many regional subjects such as Archeology, Astronomy, Mythology, History, and Religion. Examples include:

Seasonal drawings of constellations
Hunting scenes depicting imaginary struggles
Regional Mythology
The Sun journey myth

The book contains 5 chapters and 147 figures. It includes Mythology, Astronomy, Archeology, and Deciphering.
